Tune in to LZ TV and join Anne for Reflective Reading training on our fully featured course platform! Your whole-school site licence includes everything you need to run your own in-service training day or twilight sessions including lifetime access and email support. Teachers will have access to all of the resources, and lesson exemplars and templates with everything you need to implement the approach.
Reflective Reading is a practical and engaging programme for teaching reading comprehension and creating a reading culture in the primary school.
The full-day training course has been split into three episodes:
Reflective Reading (Focus: comprehension and reading for pleasure)
Episode 1: Reading Attainment in Scotland, The Basic Skills of Reading, Self-Evaluation, Assessment
Episode 2: Teaching and Learning: Your Reflective Reading Week, Textplorers Activities
Episode 3: A New Taxonomy for Reading, Managing Reading in the Classroom, Lesson Planning: Task Maps
After checkout, you will be sent a one-time access link to create a log-in and watch a test video to make sure you can access platform from your school. There is an option to ‘pay by invoice’.
Once payment is received, your course will be enabled for your school log-in giving you access to the videos, downloads and materials for copying.

What is Reflective Reading?
Created specifically for Scotland, Reflective Reading is a methodology that can be used from Primary 1 to Primary 7. This exciting approach will:
- improve literacy standards, reading attainment and motivation in reading for all
- put the magic back into reading through fun, engaging ideas and activities for the teaching of reading
- create life-long readers with good reading habits, who enjoy and appreciate text in all its forms
Designed to be the ‘next steps’ for reading in Scotland, Reflective Reading responds to the aims and purposes of Curriculum for Excellence, including the Experiences and Outcomes and the 7 Principles. Child Friendly Reading Assessments will also generate and encourage a learning dialogue about reading to support Assessment is for Learning.
In addition, a new taxonomy for reading has been created to ensure that higher order thinking skills are embedded within the teaching of reading. Teachers and children will enjoy using the Comprehension Compass, creating Task Maps and completing Textplorers activities.
